American Veterinary Specialist in Surgery
Dr. Cahalane is the first board-certified specialist in small animal surgery to practice and reside in Hong Kong. During her four years of internship and residency training, Dr. Cahalane was directly mentored by world-renowned veterinary surgical specialists, as well as leading specialists in the disciplines of anesthesia, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, and oncology. After a successful first attempt at the rigorous examination required for board certification, Dr. Cahalane spent several years in a busy specialty referral practice in the United States. Dr. Cahalane specialises in orthopedic, neurologic, cancer treatment, and soft tissue surgeries in companion animals.
After being recruited to Hong Kong to direct the first surgical residency training program in the region, Dr. Cahalane mentored a local general practitioner, teaching the surgical and medical skills required to be eligible to sit for board examination. Given the high demand for specialized surgery in Hong Kong, Dr. Cahalane’s current clinical interests include advanced surgical treatment of cancer, joint replacement, and minimally-invasive techniques. Through lectures, labs and conferences held locally and abroad, Dr. Cahalane has shown commitment and substantial contribution to the ongoing advancement of veterinary medicine in Asia. She has also published numerous scientific journal articles as well as a chapter in a well-known veterinary textbook.
Dr. Cahalane understands the importance of specialists working together with referring veterinarians and pet owners to provide complete, customized care for each patient. Dr. Cahalane focuses her surgical practice on extension of life, maintenance of quality of life, treatment of pain and anxiety, quality communication, customer service, and personal attention.
Dr. Cahalane is passionate about bringing genuine specialist referral care to the pets of Hong Kong, and looks forward to providing quality service to the veterinary community for years to come.
